![]() Earlier this year, Bangkok expanded their subway system under the Chinatown area. This expansion allows tourists to travel to the Grand Palace area cheaply and on their own. The MRT Blue Line used end at Hua Lamphong which was once the main Railroad Station for Bangkok. Now the Blue Line extends under and across the river. The extension includes 11 new stations ending in Lak Song Station and was opened in September 2019. This is how you get to the Grand Palace area: Take the MRT Blue Line towards Lak Song and the Grand Palace Station is on three stations past the old terminus, Hua Lamphong and is called Sanam Chai Station. So from Silom Station it only takes about 10 minutes. When you arrive at the Station take Exit 1, which opens at Sanam Chai Road. Walk along Sanam Chai Road for approximately 1.1 kilometers to the main entrance to the Grand Palace and should take less than 15 minutes. The sidewalk is wide and in good condition.
